One such event happened in Manitoba in 1967. Stefan Michalak was prospecting near Falcon Lake when he saw two lights hovering ahead of him. One of the lights speed away, but the other lands about 150 feet ahead of him.
Inching closer, Stefan draws a quick sketch of the craft before he reaches out a hand to touch what he described as a silvery colored saucer about 35 feet in diameter. Wearing his safety goggles, he tries to peer inside the object but is just met with bright light. The bright, almost blindingly bright object suddenly takes off, knocking Stefan down in the process and lighting his shirt and gloves on fire.
Stefan was confused and disoriented but was able to stumble his way to civilization where he was able to catch a bus to Winnipeg to tell his bizarre story.
After the encounter, Stefan fell very ill. The weeks following Stefan experienced severe headaches, nausea, weight loss, blackouts, and diarrhea. Symptoms that pointed to a radiation burn, but doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him.
Nine months after he saw the silver saucer in the woods, Stefan collapses for no apparent reason. When he comes to, he discovers burn marks in a series of dots on his chest. To make the case stranger, Stefan's doctor referred him to a clinic for additional testing. After waiting for the appropriate amount of time, the doctor called the clinic to get the results of the tests and was told: "they have no such person on file".
The area Stefan was in was so remote that it took nearly a month to find where the encounter took place. Once he was able to lead investigators to the site, they discovered many interesting clues. Stefan's shirt was found on the ground with burn marks in the same pattern as was on his chest. They also found small pieces of radioactive metal in the area.

Later it was found that Stefan wasn't the only person to see the lights in the sky that night. Some teenagers reported seeing 2 lights in the distance that moved like no aircraft should. Thinking that they were seeing things or misunderstanding what they saw, they said nothing till after Stefan's story came out.
Stefan's stuck to his story. For 32 years till his death in 1999, his story remained unchanged.
Stefan Michalak's encounter has withstood intense scrutiny by countless doctors, reputable scientists, the RCMP, Royal Canadian Air Force, the Federal Department of Health and Welfare, and the Manitoba Department of Health and Welfare, no one has been able to prove or disprove Michalak's extraordinary encounter, and remains one of the few cases considered genuine by experts in the field. "It's one of the most credible cases on file," Edward Barker of Ufology Research of Manitoba states.
I've always found this story interesting, and like all good UFO stories, it's doubtful that we will over know 100% what exactly Stefan encountered that night in the woods. I think that is part of the mystique, part of why people are so fascinated with the unknown is exactly that. It is unknown, and we can let our imaginations run free with all the wild possibilities our brains can conjure up.
The facts, in this case, are that Stefan Michalak saw something in the woods that night in 1967, and something burned his clothing but whatever it was didn't leave a mark till nine months later. That something was witnessed by more than one person, and the object left evidence behind that could not be explained.
Stefan's story will forever remain one of the most strange and bizarre UFO encounters in Canadian history.
