Richard Oland

Richard Oland was born in 1941 to the affluent Oland family. The second born son to Phillip and Mary Oland. The Oland family is considered "old money", and the area they live is the highest income per capita in Canada. They own Moosehead Breweries, founded in 1867 and they have owned and operated the brewery for 6 generations.

Richard Oland was a businessman and former Vice President of Moosehead Breweries. He studied at the University of New Brunswick focussing on biochemistry, later obtaining a Certificate in Brewing Technology. By 1980 he was Vice President of the company, but a falling out resulted in him leaving the company in 1981.

Striking out on his own, Richard founded 3 companies Kinghurst Estates Limited, Brookville Transport Limited, and Far End Corporation. He became a successful businessman with his fortune near $37 million.

Murder

In July 2011, Richard Oland's body was discovered in his office at Far End Corporation`s Canterbury street in Uptown Saint John`s office by his personal assistant. He was bludgeoned to death, and the crime scene told a brutal tale.

Described by investigators as one of the bloodiest crime scenes of his career, Richard had over 45 wounds on his hands, neck, and head. Six of the wounds were on his hands, likely as he tried to defend himself from attack.

After Richard was struck, he fell to the floor where the attack continued. His skull was fractured in multiple places, eyesockets "cracked like an eggshell", and a concave area spanning 10 cm long and 7 cm wide was bashed into his skull.

Every single wall in Richards office had blood spatter on it, as well as his computer, desk, chair, filing cabinets, and an empty pizza box in the garbage can. Police analysts stated that the attacker would have a significant amount of blood on his or her person.

Police analysts also discovered that some of Richards wounds were from blunt force and some were caused by a blade of some sort. Either two weapons were used, or, as Police believe, a hatchet or drywall hammer was used. No weapons were found at the crime scene, and none entered as evidence in the later trial.

Did Granger Taylor travel to Space?

Granger Taylor was born in Duncan, BC in 1948. At an early age, he showed an aptitude for mechanics, by late teens he gained a reputation for being able to fix nearly anything. Tragedy struck Granger's life at an early age when his father drowned in a freak accident. He lived with his mother and stepfather for the rest of his life.

Granger was a mechanical prodigy, often described as a genius when it came to mechanics. Even though he dropped out of school in grade 8, he continued to astonish friends and family with his mechanical aptitude.

Granger grew to be a large man, standing 6'3 and weighing around 240 lbs. He was shy, and because of his size and personality, he gained the nickname "Gentle Ben". His demeanor often made him the target of bullying.

In his early 20s, Granger found an old abandoned steam engine, neglected and rotting a few kilometers from his parents home. He made his way through dense forest and was able to drag this engine back home. Keep in mind that this engine had been there since the Great Depression, and it had roots and trees growing through it.

His home became known as the "Sleepy Hollow Museum" due to the old tractors and engines and such in various states of restoration that were located there. Working on the steam engine for 2 years at his home, Granger was able to restore the steam engine to its former glory and in 1973 the Province of British Columbia purchased it and it now is on display at the BC Forest Discovery Center in Duncan, BC.
